Speech Processing
Learning Outcomes
This curricular unit introduces the technologies underlying automatic human–machine interaction systems based on spoken language, including automatic speech recognition, biometric speech recognition, speech synthesis, and spoken dialogue systems. By the end of the course, students will have developed the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and apply these technologies.
In particular, students will be able to:
a) Understand the processes involved in human speech production and perception;
b) Apply basic pattern-matching and signal processing techniques in speech analysis;
c) Understand the principles of acoustic and language modelling and their application in speech recognition and synthesis;
d) Use core speech technologies, including automatic speech recognition, speech synthesis, and biometric speech recognition;
e) Develop spoken dialogue systems.
