The way I imagined my life during EMLDS is nothing compared to what I am experiencing, it is giving me even more. I am constantly immersed in a truly multicultural environment, surrounded by people from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds, and every single day I am growing, learning, and discovering new perspectives. I began my first semester in Italy at Università Cattolica, and the atmosphere there has been incredible. The professors are highly experienced, and I am learning how to meaningfully combine data science techniques with linguistics a whole new and exciting world for me. This academic journey, along with the amazing food and the warm, friendly people in Italy, made my first semester truly enjoyable.
The best thing about this program is how it brings people together: our different stories, goals, backgrounds, beliefs, and perspectives. Sharing knowledge and helping one another is more than just important here, it’s essential. And I’m happy to say this has been the case since day one. Now, we’re all humanities majors who code or STEM majors who think about language rules. I think this is beautiful and I’m truly proud to say I’m one of them. In short, the EMLDS is a great way to start (or start over) a journey of deep learning, whether it’s about machines or the world itself.
