Advanced Topics in Linguistics
Learning Outcomes
This curricular unit explores advanced topics in natural language analysis, developing students’ understanding of current theoretical and analytical issues in areas such as morphology and pragmatics. Students will be able to critically engage with the relevant literature and will gain an introductory understanding of the challenges, opportunities, and limitations of applying linguistics within Natural Language Processing (NLP).
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to read, interpret, and evaluate current research papers on advanced aspects of language and its applications in NLP. The course includes a review of research literature, assignments, and a final project.
In addition, students will develop the ability to summarise and present complex academic material, both orally and in written form, for a range of audiences.
