How to Apply

Applications for the 2027–2029 cohort of the European Master in Linguistic Data Science (EMLDS) must be submitted through the online application portal. The application form is the same for candidates applying for an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (EMJM) scholarship and for self-funded applicants.

EMLDS will offer 25 places for the 2027–2029 cohort. The 15 highest-ranked applicants will be awarded EMJM scholarships.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for admission to EMLDS, applicants must have completed a bachelor’s degree from a recognised higher education institution by DATE TO BE ANNOUNCED, corresponding to a minimum of 180 ECTS credits.

All applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English. Candidates whose native language is English, or who have completed a degree taught entirely in English, are exempt from submitting proof of language proficiency. All other applicants must provide the results of a recognised English language test. The consortium requires a minimum proficiency level of CEFR B2.2 (or equivalent) for admission to the programme.

Selection Criteria

Applications that meet the eligibility requirements will be evaluated by the Joint Admissions Committee. Candidates will be ranked according to the following criteria:

  • Academic merit and relevant professional experience (40%)
  • Motivation letter (35%)
  • Letters of recommendation (25%)

Required Documents

Applicants must submit the following documents:

  • A valid identification document (passport or identity card).
  • An electronic copy of the bachelor’s degree diploma. The document must be in English or in one of the following languages: Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, French, or German. The diploma must include the grading scale used by the awarding institution and an official conversion to a 0–100 scale.
  • An electronic copy of the bachelor’s degree transcript of records. The document must be in English or in one of the following languages: Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, French, or German. The transcript must include the grading scale used by the institution and an official conversion to a 0–100 scale.
  • An up-to-date curriculum vitae (CV), in English, detailing relevant academic and professional experience.
  • A motivation letter (maximum 500 words), in English, outlining the applicant’s career goals, research interests, and preferred study pathway.
  • Proof of English language proficiency. The certificate must be in English or in one of the following languages: Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, French, or German. Please consult the FAQ section for accepted English language tests and minimum score requirements.
  • Two letters of recommendation, submitted as scanned copies and written in English, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, French, or German.

Additional Information

The Joint Admissions Committee may invite applicants to an interview if clarification is required regarding any aspect of the application.

Admission and enrolment are conditional upon the signing of a Student Agreement between the student and the Consortium. This agreement outlines the rights and obligations of both parties throughout the programme.
