Learning Outcomes

Statistics is a cornerstone of linguistic research, providing essential tools for analysing and interpreting linguistic data. This course introduces students to key statistical methods, equipping them with a solid understanding of foundational concepts and their practical application in text analytics.

By the end of the course, students will have developed a well-rounded skill set, enabling them not only to understand the basic principles of statistical analysis, but also to apply these methods to extract meaningful insights from linguistic datasets and communicate their results effectively.

In particular, students will be able to:

a) Understand the fundamentals of basic statistical methods;

b) Apply statistical methods to the analysis of textual data;

c) Communicate the results of statistical analyses appropriately and clearly.
